Especially for fans who did not want to miss the action, the organisation presented a perfect solution of how to integrate social media during an event like the European Athletics Championships 2016. Alongside scores, updates and live images, live social media updates were shown on the screens that were placed strategically around the stadium.

Social Media

The hashtag #ECH2016 was presented on the LED screens to enable easy access to the event’s online environment. In so doing, the organization created a fantastic way to interact with the audience. All online reports came together in the so-called “ECH2016 Social Zone”, making the European Athletics Championships a highly discussed topic on Twitter; a great way of promoting the event.

LED Screens

Screens were positioned around the Olympic Stadium, enabling communication on as big a scale as possible.  Almost 300m2 of LED material was placed on the gallery, two screens on Medal Plaza and one screen in the warming-up area. In addition to those LED screens an extra of 50 monitors was placed around the Olympic Stadium, ensuring that the athletes themselves did not miss any key results of the games. The monitors were controlled by a wireless DVB-T transmitter. The organisation decided to place a 31m2 mobile LED screen at the Museumplein, so that it could be easily moved and adjusted to the various different activities that took place there.

From the beginning Faber Audiovisuals, the supplier of the large LED screens, was involved with the preparation, to contribute ideas about how and which materials could be used. ‘’It’s a great honour that we were allowed to supply our material for such a great event, taking place in a historic place like the Olympic Stadium’’, said Duco van der Veer, Sales & Relationships Faber Audiovisuals.
